This strawberry banana smoothie seriously tastes like that strawberry flavored milk you used to get when you were a kid. But it is oh so much healthier than that! It’s also quite healthier than a strawberry banana smoothie you might get at a smoothie bar or restaurant; most places where you buy smoothies will add a LOT of fruit, especially banana. Also make sure the liquid they use is NOT juice, ask to substitute for an almond milk, coconut water, or even plain water if all they have is juice.
Strawberry banana smoothie deets
I love this smoothie because of the subtle tropical flavor that comes through from the coconut milk and frozen coconut chunks (Trader Joe’s). The sweet summer strawberries are shining in this smoothie, but you can make it year-round with frozen strawberries. Once again, I snuck in a veggie to this smoothie (zucchini), which helps to thicken it up and add some extra fiber. I will also alternate with using frozen riced cauliflower as the veggies in this one. You will love this strawberry banana smoothie!
Let’s talk maca..
Maca is my favorite little adaptogen! Adaptogens are herbs or roots which help your body to better react and adapt to stressors in your diet or environment. Adaptogens can help to bring your hormone levels back to homeostasis. Maca is a Peruvian root and supposedly was utilized by Incan warriors centuries ago to help with their stamina and energy going into battles. Maca powder tastes sweet and adds a subtle butterscotch taste to your food or drink. In addition to boosting energy, maca is also known for (ahem) boosting libido as well. Don’t add too much, though! In my case, excess maca can make me feel a little jittery and a lot nauseous. I do one teaspoon, so start with that and work your way up if you want! I love this maca powder from Thrive Market.
